What can be one-size-fits-all and yet one wardrobe must have for the Spring and Summer? What can be worn over a dress, a tank and bottoms of your choosing, or even over a bathing suit? What comes in florals, aztec prints, with lace and fringe, and even embroidery? Kim-On-O I know you must be picking up my hints by now! I give you: the kimono.
What’s not even punny is the robe-ust selection of kimonos out there for your selection. So how do you pick just one? Since I have purchased about a half dozen kimonos this season ranging from $20-$130 a pop, I’m not really going to be your best bet in narrowing it down to just one. Who do you think I am? I can, however, provide a few items to consider when finding the one(s) for you:
- How sure are you on this trend? If you really aren’t sold on whether a kimono is right for you, I’d suggest starting off simple and inexpensive. That way, if you don’t wear it, you’ve not invested a wad of cash into an item that just hangs there. Not like I’ve ever done something like that before or anything. Wink.
- What’s your budget? This ties a little into the first consideration, but I would suggest figuring out how much you are willing to spend or invest in a kimono before searching, that way you can narrow down where to look. If you want one on the cheap, search the latest deals on Jane.com for what they have available. If you’re willing to invest a little more, well then the options are wide open because it seems they are everywhere, including this floral stunner from Anthropologie.
- How big are you on extras? Fringe, lace, tassels, crochet? Consider your tendency and adoration for simplicity versus the busy. If the bells and whistles aren’t your bag baby, keep your selection simple.
- What makes your eyes pop? Consider what colors and patterns are your favorite, but overall do exactly as this says. Choose a print you are drawn to and when you see one that makes your eyes pop, or love at first sight, then she’s the one.
So Kim-On-O, I know you want to try one. If you have, please comment below on where you’ve found your favorite one!
Note there are 3 family members pictured here. My talented and amazing photographer niece and cutesy strong prop-wielding sister are pictured in my mirrored frames, as well as my tiny furry niece, Sophie, who just had to make her appearance in there too.
This post is dedicated to my beautiful sister-in-law, whom I let call it a “camino” a dozen times while I giggled inside before my sister corrected her.
Yours in retail sharing,
